Glasgow Learning for Everyone Network (GLEN) is a small, grassroots, volunteer run community education project set up with the aim to deliver in-person talks and short courses in community venues around Glasgow.
You can volunteer in a variety of capacities at GLEN. Examples of the capacities in which you can volunteer with GLEN include:
We are interested in hearing from people of all experience levels who are interested in delivering community talks and courses at GLEN.
Examples of the kind of background you may have include (but not exclusively so) being a student or former student of community education or development, or another subject; a budding, early or mid-career, or retired teacher or lecturer; a budding, early or mid-career, or retired subject specialist.
Another of GLEN's aims is to provide those looking to gain experience in delivering community education sessions of the type that GLEN was formed to provide the opportunity to do so in a professionally low-stakes environment.
Absolutely, you can volunteer with GLEN regardless of where you live in Scotland with geography being no barrier to volunteering with GLEN.
All of GLEN’s organisational meetings take place online via Zoom, with only the delivery of talks and short courses in the community requiring an in-person presence.
The aim is also for geography to be no barrier if you live in Scotland and wish to deliver talks or short courses with GLEN. In relation to this aim, reasonable expenses incurred if you deliver a talk or short course at GLEN are reimbursed (see below for more details).
If you deliver a talk or short course at GLEN, reasonable expenses incurred through doing so will be covered. This includes travel, and where appropriate, overnight accommodation.
Also, where appropriate, books that would be helpful for the creation of a talk or short course can be acquired by and borrowed through GLEN.
GLEN volunteers can dedicate as much or as little time that they can commit to GLEN.
GLEN will have organisational meetings over Zoom every six weeks or so. The expectation is that the duration of these meetings will be kept under an hour.
Extra planning meetings might be scheduled on the run-up to the delivery of a talk or course.
Volunteers delivering the in-person talks or short courses will be expected to go through a ‘dry run’ of their material with the team over Zoom on the run-up to the delivery of a talk or short course.
If you are interested in volunteering with GLEN or have more questions about volunteering at GLEN, then please get in contact with is via email through following email address: hello@gleninfo.com
We would love to hear from you.
